What I have discovered this week is that I am NOT shooting reality TV, I am making a documentary and I need to be a filmmaker, not a wandering camera. I am writing a story through visuals and sounds, and now that I know my subjects and their environments pretty well I can take control and construct the story, rather than holding up a camera and hoping it happens in front of me.
I have the power to take control and I need to use it.
