FIN

The end is near!

In a good way.

Although in stages of fine cutting, I have submitted what is now titled "Root From Rust" to Big Sky, True/False, and Buffalo Underground Film Festivals. I have learned so much in the past few weeks, and wow, the last 18 months have been like an entire undergraduate education.
Things that still need to be done: Color Correction, some rearranging/replacing of clips, and audio mixing. The website is being built, and the soundtrack is almost done. Then I'll need to get dvds, cds, posters, post cards, and water bottles made.

This is all happening just in time, too. The fan in my laptop has been making strange noises lately, and I think I've been working him a little too hard :/

In a week editing will be in the hands of the audio mixer, and I'll be done editing (though I still need to make a trailer).

Here's to the end.

So Many Things are Happening

List style:

I have been talking to HUE, and I'll be getting a contract and making a deposit for website creation this week. It won't be done in time for my applications, but maybe by the time anyone actually looks at my applications... That's what I'm hoping anyway.

Julia and I chose 8 of the tracks Christine made, and she sent them to this guy named Oliver, who will be remastering/mixing them all and making them sound professional. So that'll be the final soundtrack.

Another person I don't personally know (this guy named Michael) will be cleaning up the audio on the final cut.

I am almost done composing the Vines scenes, after which I'll be doing more of the detail editing.

Julia gave the Restaurant Week scene a rest to work on Zona, we'll swap eventually, so she can put her style on Vines and I can nitpick BingSpot and Zona.

I don't think we will have a final cut by my early November deadlines, but we'll have a late enough edition to submit, which is ok.

I'm scared and excited for the end. People have been so supportive, and I don't want to let them down. I need to get into festivals so people can see I achieved something. Getting into festivals doesn't mean I'll get distribution though, which is disheartening and makes me feel .. tired inside.

The learning has been constant and at points overwhelming. It's only when I have to explain something that I realize just how much knowledge I've gained these past months.

Haggard breathing carries us up the last bit of hill.

Crrrrunch Time

We're getting down to the wire, folks. As of this coming Tuesday, we have five weeks left to finish up editing so I can get the sound fixed up, burn DVDs and upload it to WithoutABox (a festival submission website) Also I need a title, I need to create a Press Kit (this super important thing I just found out about recently) Create some posters, get this guy Christine knows to remaster the tracks she's made, create some sort of contractual agreement form so the people I'm paying can't withhold their work for more money (not that I think any of them would). OH SHIT! and I need to get a website built!
Barf
I'm certain there are other things I'll find out about at the last minute, but that just adds to the mystery.

Five weeks

Five

Wish me luck, yall.

also if you have title ideas I want to hear them.

Post Strangeness

We're still in post production, Julia and I meet once a week via Skype to discuss progress, and she sends me the latest project files. We have about ten or fifteen pretty solid minutes down so far, but still no title.
A title is necessary for me to begin working on all the KickStarter incentives and festival applications, but we just can't come up with one we like. It needs to explain the past and the message without making it strictly about Binghamton. Although it also needs to avoid implying I filmed in multiple towns. If any of you have ideas, hit me up please.

Having someone else do my editing feels very strange, I know there's a lot of work to be done, but how much of it can I do? My job has changed from working with the actual manipulation of sound and image to working with unknowns like festivals, legalities, planning for what I'll do when the documentary is screenable. If I'm being honest, I'm not getting much work done, and I haven't since Julia agreed to edit for me...

Well that's all I've got for now, folks. Thanks for sticking around and supporting me.
